Cheboygan High School Chiefs Hockey
The 2014-15 season was the 16th year for Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey. The team's inaugural season was 1999-2000. The Chiefs play in the Northern Michigan Hockey League and are a Division III school of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey program is totally funded through the Cheboygan Blueliners Club.
Craig Coxe has been the Head Coach of the Chiefs for four seasons. Coach Coxe is a veteran coach at multiple levels from youth hockey to Minor Professional hockey. He is a former NHL player with the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks. Tom Smith has been Assistant Coach and Strength & Conditioning Trainer for the Chief Hockey team for six seasons. Volunteer Assistant Coaches are Kevin Chapman and Mickey Malhmberg. Trainer is Emily Mahoney.

The next meeting for the Cheboygan Blueliners is scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2015, 7:00 p.m. at the Cheboygan Ice Pavilion. Current officers are: President - Mike Grisdale; Vice President - Joe Williams; Interim Secretary - Michelle White; and Treasurer - Scott Kelley.

Cheboygan's season comes to an end with a loss to the well-respected Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils, 6-3. Senior, Josh Stempky led Cheboygan with two goals and was named WCBY Player of the Game. Adam Jeannotte had a goal and two assists for the Chiefs who finish 12-14 on the season. Cheboygan outshot the Soo, 34-30. The Chiefs would like to thank the Blueliners and all of those who showed loyal support throughout the season. Good luck to the four seniors and their future endeavors.
The Chiefs wrapped up the regular season with an exciting win over the Cadillac Vikings, 6-5 at the Wexford Civic Center on Wednesday. Zach Stempky had the game-winning goal with 2:14 to play and was named the WCBY Player of the Game. Cheboygan outshot Cadillac, 33-30. The Chiefs improve to 12-13 as they prepare for the MHSAA Pre-Regionals on Monday against the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils.
Results from the NMHL Tournament....Manistee beat the Bay Area Reps in the Championship game, 3-1. Cheboygan won the consolation game against Petoskey, 8-3. In the semis, Cheboygan lost to Manistee, 6-4.

The Chiefs picked up a nice 7-4 win against the Petoskey Northmen on Wednesday. It was a Pink in the Rink Game at Griffin Arena. Josh Stempky had a hat trick and two assists to lead the Chiefs. Jasic Callan was selected as the WCBY Player of the Game for picking up his first varsity hockey goal! He also had an assist. The Chiefs outshot the Northmen, 38-21. Cheboygan improves their record to 10-12 as they prepare with a week off before the Northern Michigan Hockey League tournament in Cheboygan on Feb. 20th & 21st.
The Chiefs split their two games in the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase down in Chelsea. Cheboygan beat the Davison Cardinals on Friday night, 3-2. This was only the third loss on the season for Davison. On Saturday afternoon, the Chiefs fell to South Lyon Unified in a very close game, 5-4. Cheboygan (9-12) will gear up for a Wednesday contest at Petoskey and will be broadcasted on WCBY.
The Chiefs split their two road games over the weekend. Friday saw Cheboygan getting back to their winning ways by beating the Manistee Chippewas 6-1. This game was also the first high school hockey game in 9&10 News Sports Overtime history to be voted as the Fans' Choice Game of the Week! The Chiefs would then fall to the Big Rapids Cardinals, 5-2, on the campus of Ferris State University. Cheboygan (8-11) will participate next weekend in the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase in Chelsea.
The Chiefs scored four goals in the third period to pick up a win at Gaylord, Saturday night, 6-3. The game was tied at two after the 2nd period, but Cheboygan out-shot the Blue Devils in the third, 12-4. The Blue Devils also took five penalties on the night, all in the third period. Cheboygan only had two penalties all night, and out-shot Gaylord, 27-20. Carl Bartholomew was in net for the Chiefs. Josh Stempky led the Cheboygan scoring with a hat trick. Other goals came from Adam Jeannotte, Gavin Armstrong and Cole Williams. Getting assists were Zack Stempky (2), Jeannotte (2), Paker James and Matt Grisdale. Cheboygan is now 7-10 and will be on the road this weekend at Manistee and Big Rapids.
The Chiefs lost to the Bay Reps on Tuesday night in Kalkaska, 7-4. Cheboygan's scoring included two goals by Evan Jewell, one by Gavin Armstrong and one from Cole Williams. Cheboygan (6-10) will face the Gaylord Blue Devils (5-9-1) on the road this Saturday.
The Chiefs dropped a couple games in Midland over the weekend. Friday night saw Cheboygan fall to the Midland Chemics 4-2. The Chiefs lost Saturday afternoon 4-0 to the Midland Dow Chargers. Carl Bartholomew was between the pipes for both games. Cheboygan's record falls to 6-9 as they look forward to their contest on Tuesday in Kalkaska against the Bay Reps.
The Chiefs blanked the Alpena Wildcats on Wednesday night, 3-0 for the PINK OUT game. Cheboygan, now (6-7), will look forward to their trip to Midland next weekend for games against the Midland Chemics and Midland Dow Chargers.
The Chiefs split their two games this weekend at a New Year's Showcase at Michigan Tech University in Houghton. Friday night, the Chiefs lost to Escanaba, 6-2. Saturday afternoon they beat Painesdale-Jeffers, 4-2. Cheboygan is now (5-7) and returns home to play Alpena in the PINK OUT game on Wednesday, January 7, 7:00 p.m.
