Cheboygan High School Chiefs Hockey

The 2014-15 season will be the 16th year for Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey. The team's inaugural season was 1999-2000. The Chiefs play in the Northern Michigan Hockey League and are a Division III school of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey program is totally funded through the Cheboygan Blueliners Club.

Craig Coxe is in his 4th year as Head Coach of the Chiefs. Coach Coxe is a veteran coach at multiple levels from youth hockey to Minor Professional hockey. He is a former NHL player with the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks. Tom Smith is in his 6th season as Assistant Coach and Strength & Conditioning Trainer. Volunteer Assistant Coach Kevin Chapman works with the goaltenders.

11/25/14 - The Chiefs left Alpena with a big 5-4 win over the Wildcats! Adam Jeannotte had a hat trick and Josh Stempky scored the game-winner with a couple minutes left in the game. The Chiefs also got a big third period goal from Cole Willians.  Freshman goalie Carl Bartholomew picked up his first varsity win in net! Cheboygan's record improves to 2-1 on the season. Cheboygan assists came from DJ Sayers (2), Gavin Armstrong (2), Josh Stempky, Parker Beauchamp, and Parker James. Cheboygan outshot Alpena, 23-22. Total Penalties: Alpena 10, Cheboygan 3. The Chiefs will take on Marquette this Saturday in Cheboygan at 3:00.

CAN DRIVE A SUCCESS!

A big THANK YOU to all those who helped make the can/bottle drive a big success, November 21 & 22. Many fans brought returnables to the game against Cadillac, and many people also brought returnables to Family Fare in Cheboygan the next day, Saturday, November 22. Over $1,000 was raised during this fundraiser thanks to the great effort by the players' families and the community. The Blueliners would also like to thank Family Fare and the other businesses that helped coordinate the event.

CADILLAC TAKES DOWN CHIEFS

11/21/14 - Cadillac opened their schedule by beating the Chiefs in Cheboygan, 6-2.  The Vikings scored an early first period goal and eventually opened up a    6-0 advantage before the Chiefs answered with two third period goals. Cheboygan actually outshot Cadillac, 26-24.Scoring for Cheboygan were Adam Jeannotte on an unassisted goal, and DJ Sayers on an assist from freshman Max Paull (his first varsity point!). Defenseman Gavin Armstrong was named the WCBY Player of the Game. Team Penalties - Cheboygan (5), Cadillac (4). Cheboygan (1-1) travels to Alpena for a game against the Wildcats, Tuesday, November 25, 7:00 p.m.

CHIEFS BEAT PETOSKEY

11/19/14 - The Chiefs shutout the Northmen for the season opener on a snowy night at the Cheboygan Ice Pavillion. Cheboygan started early with Josh Stempky scoring 27 seconds into the game! The next goals for the Chiefs came in the second period from DJ Sayers and Parker James. This was Parker's first varsity goal! The Chiefs kept up their strong effort with two goals from Adam Jeannotte and another from Stempky. Assists in the game came from Sayers (2), Jeannotte, Stempky, Gavin Armstrong, Craig Bongard, Matt Grisdale and Cole Williams. Cooper Kelley also earned a shutout in his first varsity game! The Chiefs outshot the Northmen, 46-15. Team penalties - Cheboygan (5), Petoskey (4). Josh Stempky was named WCBY Player of the Game. Cheboygan will be home against Cadillac, Friday, November 21, at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on WCBY Radio.
