Cheboygan High School Chiefs Hockey

The 2014-15 season will be the 16th year for Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey. The team's inaugural season was 1999-2000. The Chiefs play in the Northern Michigan Hockey League and are a Division III school of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey program is totally funded through the Cheboygan Blueliners Club.

Craig Coxe is in his 4th year as Head Coach of the Chiefs. Coach Coxe is a veteran coach at multiple levels from youth hockey to Minor Professional hockey. He is a former NHL player with the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks. Tom Smith is in his 6th season as Assistant Coach and Strength & Conditioning Trainer. Volunteer Assistant Coach Kevin Chapman works with the goaltenders.

12/11/14 - A heart-breaking loss for the Chiefs on Parents Night. Painesdale-Jeffers scored the go-ahead goal with 5 seconds left in regulation to edge out Cheboygan 3-2. The Chiefs led 2-0 with just over 4 minutes remaining. Cheboygan's goals came from Craig Bongard on an assist from Zach Stempky, and Adam Jeannotte off an assist from DJ Sayers. Cheboygan outshot the Jets, 32-31. Total Penalties - Cheboygan 2, Jeffers 4. WCBY Player of the Game was Craig Bongard.  The Chiefs (2-5) will play next weekend in their annual holiday showcase, December 19 & 20. Also participating in the weekend event are the Kingsford Flivvers, L'Anse Purple Hornets, and the Kalamazoo Eagles.


12/6/14 - The Chiefs suffered two losses over the weekend, losing to Walled Lake Northern on Friday, 6-2, and then Saline, Saturday afternoon, 6-0. Cheboygan's goals against the Knights came from DJ Sayers and Cole Williams with Adam Jeannotte getting an assist. Carl Batholomew was in the net Friday. Cooper Kelly was goalie on Saturday. Cheboygan was outshot against the Knights, 33-22, and outshot by the Hornets, 41 - 22. WCBY Players of the Game were Parker Beauchamp on Friday, and DJ Sayers on Saturday. The Chiefs are now 2-4 and will be on home ice again Thursday, December 11, 7:00 p.m. when they host Painesdale-Jeffers for Parents Night.


11/29/14 - Cheboygan dropped its contest to the Marquette Redmen 5-1. After a scoreless first period, Marquette took advantage of the power play and scored three goals in the second period. The Chiefs only goal came in the third period by Josh Stempky on an assist from Adam Jeannotte. Carl Bartholomew was in net for Cheboygan. Shots on goal - Marquette 29, Cheboygan 13. Total penalties - Cheboygan 6, Marquette 5. Cole Williams was the WCBY Player of the Game.


11/25/14 - The Chiefs left Alpena with a big 5-4 win over the Wildcats! Adam Jeannotte had a hat trick and Josh Stempky scored the game-winner with a couple minutes left in the game. The Chiefs also got a big third period goal from Cole Willians.  Freshman goalie Carl Bartholomew picked up his first varsity win in net! Cheboygan's record improves to 2-1 on the season. Cheboygan assists came from DJ Sayers (2), Gavin Armstrong (2), Josh Stempky, Parker Beauchamp, and Parker James. Cheboygan outshot Alpena, 23-22. Total Penalties: Alpena 10, Cheboygan 3.


A big THANK YOU to all those who helped make the can/bottle drive a big success, November 21 & 22. Many fans brought returnables to the game against Cadillac, and many people also brought returnables to Family Fare in Cheboygan the next day, Saturday, November 22. Over $1,000 was raised during this fundraiser thanks to the great effort by the players' families and the community. The Blueliners would also like to thank Family Fare and the other businesses that helped coordinate the event.


The next meeting for the Cheboygan Blueliners will be Monday, January 5, 7:00 p.m. at the Cheboygan Ice Pavilion. Officers for 2014-15 season Current officers are President - Mike Grisdale; Vice President - Joe Williams; Secretary - Dana Stempky; and Treasurer - Scott Kelley.
