Cheboygan High School Chiefs Hockey
The 2015-16 season is the 17th year for Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey. The team's inaugural season was 1999-2000. The Chiefs play in the Northern Michigan Hockey League and are a Division III school of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The Cheboygan Chiefs Hockey program is totally funded through the Cheboygan Blueliners Club.
Craig Coxe is beginning his fifth season as Head Coach of the Chiefs. Coach Coxe is a veteran coach at multiple levels from youth hockey to Minor Professional hockey. He is a former NHL player with the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks. For a 7th year, Assistant Coach Tom Smith will also serve as the team's Strength & Conditioning Trainer. Volunteer Assistant Coaches are Kevin Chapman and Mickey Malmborg. Trainer is Emily Mahoney.

Northern Michigan Hockey League - Standings
The Chiefs are now 2-1 on the young season after earning a split in the U.P. over the weekend. Cheboygan lost at Marquette, 9-1, but beat Negaunee, 11-4. The Chiefs' only goal against the Redmen came in the second period when Craig Bongard tipped in a shot from Matt Grisdale. Marquette outshot Cheboygan, 30-9. Against the Miners, the Chiefs were led by Adam Jeannotte (4 goals, 2 assists) and Jasic Callan (3 goals). Jarrod Bourgeois (goal, assist) and Garrett Christie (goal) scored their first varsity points. Also scoring for the Chiefs were Bongard (1 goal, 3 assists), Zach Stempky (goal), Dakota Bell (2 assists), Cole Williams, (2 assists), and Parker James (assist). Cheboygan outshot Negaunee, 53-34. Tyler Kiper was in net for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs are now off until they travel to Cadillac on December 2. FYI, the November 28 game vs. Algoma (Soo, Ontario) has been cancelled. The Chiefs first home game will now be December 5, Parents Night against Dearborn.
The Chiefs start out the season with a win on the road against Petoskey, 6-0. Carl Bartholomew gets the shutout between the pipes for Cheboygan. The Player of the Game was Craig Bongard with 2 goals and 3 assists. Connor McMullen is named the Impact Player of the Game as he got an assist for his first varsity point. Cheboygan outshot the Northmen, 34-12.

FUNDRAISER THANK YOUS
- BOTTLE/CAN DRIVE .... Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent effort to collect returnables. We had a great showing of players and parents who helped collect, sort and redeem many bottles and cans. There were many generous people from the community who donated returnables and cash! Special shout out to the staff at Family Fare in Cheboygan for their great cooperation on September 13th. We made over $876!!!
-RAFFLE TIME ...Tickets are now on sale for the 2015-16 Blueliners Raffle. Grand Prize is $500, 2nd Prize is $300, and 3rd Prize is $200. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Contact any player or Blueliner parent for tickets. The drawing is February 26, 2016. (Need not be present to win.)
*REMINDER - The Cheboygan Chief High School hockey program is completely funded by the Blueliners. Player fees, donations, sponsors and volunteers make it all possible each season. Plus, this year's budget includes extra expense for new uniforms. Your support is greatly appreciated!
